Rocky Vistas

I made a trip to Colorado a couple of months ago, and came back with over 500 photos of gorgeous scenery.  Here are 2 photo landscapes that came out of those pictures, a series I'm going to call "Rocky Vistas":

Fabric Bowls - Advanced Class

Lynn and Kim came back again for an Advanced Fabric Bowl class, and I was again impressed with what they came up with!

Here's Lynn's "Vortex", viewed from different angles.  She used painted Tyvek and Angelina fibers as accents, and chose a very wonky shape to her bowl:

And here's Lynn's flower petal piece, again in her characteristic bold colours and shapes:
Kim's new piece, which she calls 'O'de to Lampshades, is very unique, with its beaded fringe and unusual materials (she used a couple of stretchy, polyester fabrics, instead of the typical broadcloth, and with very interesting effects).

Fabric Bowls - Again

In anticipation of new classes I'm going to be teaching over the next week or so, I've gone back to making fabric bowls again (it's been years!).

This is a piece I call "Molten", and it's a simple beginner's bowl, with straight darts and edges, and only slight embellishment (its size and dimensions make it more of a tray than a bowl).

And this one ("Orbits") is more advanced.  The edges are fluted, the darts are curved, and I've both cut holes and appliqued circles to the sides of the bowl.  After more than 3 hours of twisting and turning under the sewing machine, this is what came out (it's alot of fun to view it from different angles):

And this final one is a bit more traditional and symmetrical, in a fluted way:

Fabric Bowls - Beginners Class

I taught a class today (on Beginner's Fabric Bowls), to a couple of ladies who weren't afraid to go whacky and asymmetrical in their bowl designs.  I was impressed with what they came up with!  Here are shots of the 2 bowls, from various angles.

Cape Breton Postcards

I've recently had some postcards printed, of artwork I've made using Cape Breton images.

Bay of Fundy Scapes

The weather's warming up (finally!), so I'm starting to think of summer, and supplying my East Coast galleries.  I had a commission to make an 8x10" piece using photos of Passamaquoddy Bay in the St. Andrew by-the-Sea area in New Brunswick, so I got to work and made four (using photos I took on my last trip there, in 2007).  It's been months since I've used this technique, so it was nice to get back to it.  I'll be doing alot more of this over the spring and summer.

Rainbow Diaper Bag

I don't get a chance to make bags very often.  Here's a diaper bag I made recently for a friend who had a beautiful baby girl a few weeks ago, and who loves rainbows and tropical birds.

Thread-sketched Hopewell Rocks

I miss the East Coast suddenly!  I used to live just down the road from Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick.  I've done a series of thread sketches of the Rocks over the years, and here are new thread-sketched cards (printed cards, stitched through in thread).

The Wendy Johnston Pottery (now known as Art Effects Fine Craft Gallery) carries all of my Hopewell Rocks artwork in the area.  Check out their website:  http://wendyjohnstonpottery.com/
